The staff and pupils of St Colm’s High School were delighted to host thirteen teachers from The Netherlands on Friday morning. The group, led by Lisette Bentveizen were on a week-long visit to Northern Ireland to get a flavour of Irish culture but mainly to look at our education system in practice with a view to improving their own provision in Alfrink College, Zoetermeer.
Mr Walsh gave a presentation to the group after which they were given a tour of the school and classroom visits to observe the learning and teaching strategies employed by our outstanding teachers. Head of English, Ms Mackel expressed a special word of thanks to Saskia McManus from Year 8 who recited a beautiful poem she had written about dealing with mental health.
The day proved to be a great success, with St Colm’s the final stop-off point on their journey, before flying back to Amsterdam on Friday afternoon.
We wish our visitors a safe journey home and hope that maybe some of our staff get the opportunity to visit Alfrink College in the near future.
